- In Americo’s footsteps : Back in the eighties, Americo Tordoya Cornejo was reputed as the Peruvian Andes mountain climber with the greatest potential worldwide. His continuous mountain prowesses featured prominently in the specialized media of the time. He climbed not less than 40 mountains in Peru and overseas. On January 24, 1983 an avalanche in El Juncal snowcapped mountain in Chile truncated the aspirations of Peru’s youngest and most outstanding mountain climber.
